Errore numero cinque - Preposizioni

Something that students tend to get wrong often is prepositions. Either they use the wrong one or they use it where it should be omitted.

Typical mistake:

è normale di fare errori quando si impara una lingua

Frase corretta:

è normale fare errori quando si impara una lingua

NO preposition is required when you are making general statements beginning with “It is”, such as:

It’s easy to learn Italian:

È facile imparare l’italiano

It’s important to have a fair tax system:

È importante avere un sistema di tassazione equo

It’s best if you go home now:

È meglio se vai a casa adesso

Perhaps this mistake stems from French interference (where the preposition is indeed used):
